Most of the Emdeon customers who receive remittance advice from Emdeon receive them in an ASC X12N 835 format. Therefore, the reach to the HIPAA standard format is reasonably close.
The Practice Management System and Application Vendor packages receiving electronic remittance transactions tend to be the more recently deployed; therefore, tend to be better supported.
Providers believe HIPAA will solve the remittance/payment “balancing” problem.
