I worked at a major computer manufacturer for 5 years doing sales, account management, and marketing.
I have had the opportunity to grow and learn new things. Working at Emdeon has given me the opportunity to use my experience in sales and marketing. I have a great boss and a great team, which makes it easy to want to be here and do a good job. This is the first time in my career that I enjoy coming to work and doing my job.
I have degrees in Law and Economics from Monash University. After law school, I spent the next 12 years in lawyer, sales executive and commercial finance positions in Australia, and then in the US (I moved here in 1995). I also taught English in Thailand for a short time, which was a great experience. I came here as a paralegal in 2006, after which I completed Bar exam and licensing requirements. Now, I'm one of a team of 6 corporate attorneys here.
Emdeon has a decidedly American feel, yet is still quite a diverse organization. It is great to work for an organization that is positioned to have a nationwide impact on healthcare, and to truly effect change. We are a fairly large company, but we still have a personal touch, which is exhibited in the daily interactions among ourselves and with our customer base.
I graduated from the Air Force Academy in Aeronautical Engineering and then trained as an F16 pilot. Afterwards, I spent eight years in front line combat as a fighter pilot. Since I was 16 years old, everything I did in life was purposed to be a fighter pilot. After ten years in the military, I decided to do something different, so I went back to school at the University of Michigan for both an MBA and a Masters in Industrial & Operations Engineering. I have worked in a variety of industries, such as defense, raw materials, and computer manufacturing.
Emdeon is a growing company in a great industry, and has a huge opportunity to make positive impact on this $2 trillion plus market. It's fun and a little bit crazy. It's ever changing, but not in a bad way. We are out to become the biggest player with the best service in every segment we do business; if that was easy, anyone could do it.
Before coming to the United States to attend school, I was actually selling large print machines in India. I enrolled in the MBA program at Vanderbilt. Upon graduation, I was an Analyst at a large hospital chain.
I chose Emdeon for its strong ability to attract culturally diverse people. I consider Emdeon to be the hub of healthcare, backed with a strong brand name. Emdeon provides a very flexible yet demanding culture. It has been great experience for me and has provided the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and to learn from the best in the industry.
I spent six years in the Air Force before attending Tennessee Tech University for Engineering. After school, I worked as a Production Supervisor for a global computer manufacturer. I came to Emdeon as a programmer and quickly found an environment that encouraged me to implement new ideas, like designing and developing core applications.
My family is in healthcare, but I didn't want to follow the medical doctor path like many of them did. I saw an opportunity by working at Emdeon to still make a difference in the healthcare industry. We have the ability as a company to have a significantly positive impact on the administrative cost of healthcare.
Within seven years, I was able to go from a developer to working directly with the CIO and the PMO team. The doors are wide open here for learning and career growth. I have always been supported in whatever I wanted to pursue next. It is very challenging, fast paced, and exciting, and I haven't had a boring day yet!
I started as a programmer after completing my Bachelors in Chemistry. I helped develop the first clinical pharmacy system for a healthcare technology company. I held various positions in that organization because I wanted to understand the entire lifecycle. After completing my Vanderbilt MBA, I came to Emdeon.
Emdeon is very innovative and has the opportunity to impact the market far and wide. I don't want to manage "steady state," and the company has always offered the opportunity to move up, learn new things, and expand my overall skill set. And that has given me the ability to really be impactful to the business.
Upon completion of my undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, I returned home to New York City, where I began my professional career. I worked for eight years prior to coming back to Nashville. My first job was with the world's premier jeweler, where I did a combination of Finance and Marketing. I later worked at a prestigious financial institution, where I held a large range of roles and responsibilities. I also received an MBA from Fordham University.
I really had a strong desire to get into the Healthcare industry and, with Nashville being a hub of healthcare, it made sense. I liked the idea of working for a company with an established, yet growing, business. Emdeon provides a culture of constant change, which I like very much. It is definitely more of a fast paced, hands-on environment. I particularly enjoy the various responsibilities and special projects that I can take on at Emdeon.
I was in college and interned at a major toy store chain as a Store Events Coordinator. I was promoted to oversee seven stores in east and middle Tennessee.
Working at Emdeon is a great experience—it's fun. I love the position I am in and the people I work with. I am definitely where I want to be and doing what I want to do. Working at Emdeon allows me to increase my knowledge both in my profession and in the healthcare industry.
Before I came to Emdeon, I worked in the petroleum industry in Human Resources for 10 years. I came to Emdeon because it provided me additional career growth opportunities. During my time at Emdeon, I want to learn more about the industry in which we operate while at the same time using my skills and experience to help Emdeon move forward with its strategic goals.
Being an employee at Emdeon has felt like joining a large family. Emdeon is a mix of a variety of different companies merged together to form something great. As a whole, we are already working towards changing the separate but together culture.
I was in the medical field as a medical biller for a Nashville-based healthcare company. I was also a claims adjuster for a government-based insurance provider. I have been on both sides of the process. At Emdeon, we are in the middle, and link the provider and payer together.
I don't feel obligated to stay in my position forever -- there are many opportunities for growth. It is interesting for me to see how every piece of the healthcare puzzle fits together. I actually like what I do. I am always up for a challenge, just to see what happens.
I grew up in Healthcare, working as licensed therapist aid. After graduating from The Ohio State University, I spent some time in Colorado and eventually took an opportunity in NYC selling pharmaceuticals. The internet buzz was starting to catch on and I came on to WebMD and sold portal applications to physicians. When we were merged with Envoy, I began selling EDI in the institutional market. I left after 4 1/2 years to go to a competitor and sell large ticket clinical applications. Dave Libardi, Vice President of Sales, recruited me to come back and here I am.
Unique in that it's a large organization with resources, but it's incredibly entrepreneurial. You're free to use your creativity to make your own decisions and impact. That's why I was compelled to come back and why I am driven to contribute to the business. We are incredibly close to truly exercising our potential and when we do, no one will be able compete with us in our market; our position and solutions offering are incredibly unique.
I started in 1999 in the Envoy IT Business Analysis/Quality Assurance group. I was promoted to lead role, then the group was divided between BA and QA. Now I'm running Clearinghouse Service Delivery, managing Business Analysis, Development and Quality Assurance.
Fast paced. Exciting. Never dull. We have so much potential, we can have a direct impact on the industry of healthcare.

I started with UHC Nebraska in sales/physician relations, which was bought by Healtheon and WebMD. I introduced and implemented the entire EDI strategy nationwide. Then I moved around and ended up in sales support doing data analytics and business analysis. I moved to corporate data infrastructure in IT and I'm now in Provider Product.
Emdeon is fast paced -- never boring. Many days are challenging but we have such a huge potential/opportunity. That's why I'm still here. We can change healthcare.
My overall experience is in "operationalizing technology" -- how to make technology work for business. I came to Emdeon because I really wanted to get into healthcare. Also because I wanted to work with the kind of people where technology is the core but they want to go to the next level.
Emdeon has its own set of challenges. It's difficult to characterize Emdeon except to say that my experience has been fulfilling. It's a very dynamic environment.
